The main character is in his late twenties, maybe early thirties and will have a five-o'clock shadow, he's between 5'9" and 6'1". His weapon of choice is a heavy axe he used to use in his old job as the regional exocutioner, but is also slightly partial to big hammers.

This is where the story line and plot is posted and discussed.

main character is "provoked" in his home village/town by someone (probably the village idiot), he goes temporarily insane, and kills everyone in the town. He wakes up in his home the next day to the smell of blood. Through a series of investigative actions on his part he realizes that it was him. On the verge of a psycological breakdown he encounters a member of the good and a member of the evil doing battle; out of annoyance and a hint of rage, the main charater smites them both and goes on his way.

He become a mercenary after burning the remains of the village. He joined a band of mercenaries who taught him how to fight versus enemies who fight back. They perform a number of operations such as ransoms and rooberies. Finally they are offered substancial sums of money to join either side in a brooding war. The mercenaries disband after a heated dispute to join the seperate sides.

Can you please give me a detailed description of the type of era, character habits, personality, what kind of location etc. Regarding Calcor and Malico?
Its very hard to design specifically, when I've near nothing to go on. Particularly with clothing and weapons this influences the character as well.

The timeline is similar to that of Final Fantasy 7, as in mostly guns with spontanious faithfuls to the traditions of swords, axes, hammers, fists, spears, ect. Clothing? well I personally have not given that much thought. I'm thinking tunics for younger male bystander/civilians and toga-eske with some robes for higher up clergy/statesmen and wizardish people, heavy leather semi-vests and heavy FF7Cloud style pants for mercenaries and bandits.
As for Calcor, I picture him in the heavy pants and heavy leather semivest with a big ax or commically large hammer.

If the main character chooses the path of good (we REALLY need names for the two sides) he will make his way into a good guy controled town with those of his mercenary companions that also chose this path and register for the military. Due to his size, he is issued a standard battle sledge (that's a hammer), which replaces his old exocutioners ax [he feels awkward about losing his ax, but at the same time relieved, since the ax symbolized many past horrors]. He is then assigned a captian to show him the ropes of battlefield combat [This opens a tutorial where the player learns to control the character in a large-scale combat situation where a large number of good guys and an oposing force do battle]. For a twist, he is also assigned a psykiatrist who is supossed to help him become a more effective and focused soldier; he also meets his first real friend since he joined the military, main character #2. All they have in common is the schrink, at first, and later they realized the are in the same platoon.

Malico, I've been seeing that name a lot. That name sounds good for a young character, maybe the upedy young hero type.

we appear to have three concrete characters so far: Calcor (the hero), Clovis (a general in the "good guy" army who is actually out to bring about the apocolypse), and Malico (an upedy young recruit in the "good guy" forces who is the standard "I'll be a hero and save the world" kinda kid).

As far as the 3 charaters so far go:
if Calcor joins good: Malico will be in his party; at the end of the game Calcor will fight Clovis 1 on 1 to save the world - if Calcor wins, he saved the world, If he loses then Malico jumps in to pick up where Calcor left off, if Malico wins he's the hero, if he loses - game over.

If Calcor goes evil: Malico will join Clovis' party (not knowing of course that Clovis wants to cause the apocolypse), and at the end of the game Calcor will fight Clovis - if Calcor wins Malico will jump in to fight him and if he wins against Malico he gets to blow up the planet; If he loses against either, it is basically game over, however when/if he loses to Clovis, Malico will step in and confront Clovis, and the player gets to watch a movie sequence of Malico beating Clovis, saving the world, getting his mettles at some military/you-saved-the-world ceremony, and how now the world's a peaceful place because of him (until... SEQUAL!!!).

Demonia-Haleon(Demon Type)-Dark/Summoner Mage- uses dark arts to defeat foes and summones demonic foes from the abyss

Lithon-Elf-(Warrior/White Mage) specializes in sword and Axe Combat and uses the White Arts to heal his allies.

Zinho-Orcus-HeavyWeapon Specialist/Bounty Hunter) uses heavy weapons such as the Super Humungo Hammer and wears heavy Armor

Calcor-Hamun-(Heavy Weapon Specialist/Mercenary)-uses heavy weapons such as his perfered weapon the Executioner Axe 1 and uses light and heavy armor and can use some basic mage abilities.

Malico--Hamun/Elf-White/DarkMage/Warrior-specializes in using differents types of dark and light magic and can use swords, axes and staffs are his perfered weapon.

Clovis-Hamun-(All around specialist) Can use any classes weapons magic and abilities etc.

Psyno-Psy-(Lancer/Levitating/Mind Mage)Can use difernet types of magic and speacilizes in mimic and mind magic and uses lances ad his perfered weapon

Felnor-Drago Hamun-(Dragon rider /Warrior) Can use dragons and dragon magic to aid his allies in battle and also use lances,swords axes,spears and etc

Tenels-Hamun-(Fiend Hunter/Dark Mage)- hunts down executioners and fiends but has gained new incite on the executioners and he uses a wide range of weapons from swords to blunts to axes and can use his dark summoning abilities to summon the fiends that he has destroyed

We have the reason for the game and the supporting characters now we need to vote on which characters we should use and others scrap

This project is a story about a warrior by the name of Calcor who is fighting a battle within his soul. This story involves an epic struggle between good and evil. Calcor has experienced it all from being the greatest warrior of the planet to being the most evil being on the planet. Then Calcors journey involves him going round the planet on the nuetral side and he must choose his destiny from their. The control of the charcter is in the players hand.

To emphasize my point :

alright we will start the game off with a yet determined background seen that will probly involve the death/loss of his family, a loved, good friend, or/and destruction of his hometown by the two armies battleing (something tramatic).

Calcor is in his late twenties, maybe early thirties and will have a five-o'clock shadow, he's between 5'9" and 6'1", weapon of choice is to-be-determined(prolly either a big handgun or a sword). the gameplay style is still being argued about (will either be your run of the mil random encounter battles[my favorite] or a hack'n-slash[what justin's leenin towards]).

The feinds will be humanoid in appearance and have their weopons protruding from their skin/exoskeliton, but will have disfigured pets(dog-ish, snake-ish, bird-ish, ect.). the "good guy" are, as far as I know, all human soldier types, but look different according to what their function in the army is (foot soldier, archer/crossbowman/rifleman, heavy weopons[big guns, explosive,ect.], magician), the class only effects how much armor they're wearing and weopons they're holding. all of them will have standard suitpants and shirt, with two primary colors and a linecolor on seems as well as an insignia.

we do not have (yet) any secondary characters. however there will be some characters that will influence the storyline. such as the general(s) of the "good guys" and the supreme leader of the "good guys"; there is also the fiends' head hancho, who will either be their greatest worrior or this enormous blob of fat and tomours gaurded by some supper loyal wariors (like the Pope).

i used quotes around the "good guys" because we don't have a definite name for them and their purpose hasn't been fully thought out.

very good idea. he is provoked (by some way or another) to lash out in anger at the village idot (or something like that), loses all control and when he wakes up the next day he has no memory of what happened the day before. he looks outside and homes are in smoldering piles and there are bodies of people everywhere. through finding a series of clues he discovers that it was he who destroyed the town and killed everyone. he then makes a choice (er the player makes a choice) to pursue a life of retribution for his crimes or a life commited to the needless slaughter of inocent people and vilages/cities. After choosing he then incounters a battle between a fiend (by the way, we need a new name for them, "fiends" is already taken by Final Fantasy) and a one of the soldiers of the "good guys". both notice him and both request his asitance in fighting the other and promise him aposition in their respective armies. depending on the choice he had chosen ofter seeing he destroyed the town (good or evil) he will have a thought sequence and join the battle with whichever path he chose. this is where we'll give the combat tutorial.

secondary Character
Malico - a mage that is a very skilled magician he learned this very young. his hieght is about 5'8 to about 6'2 he weilds a magician staff which holds ancient powers his age is around late 30s to early 40's

Enemies
Clovis- the main bad guy- he is a all around skilled warrior which he weilds the power of darkness very well and he wears an ancient armor that protects him from mostly any blow as magic or weapon based the only way he can be effected is if Calcor fuses himself with another character and then he gains the ability to deal damage to Clovis. He is around the age of 45-50 and about 6'2 -6'5. he weilds a blade called the Chaos blade which holds all of his power in.

we need a background story: what he did for a living, where his town is located, the history of the town, brief history of the world (and that's HISTORY, not geography), who his parents were(optional), what kind of experiences he's had that would/wouldn't make him suitable to be a hero/villian. as well as backgrounds for the other major characters.

and I was thinking that if you want to use the young model, use it during the brief history portion, but for the main game use the older version.

I personally would like to see lots of secondary characters for party members, but that's realy only if the game's battle system is turn-based.
As for Clovis, he needs more background; he shouldn't start off as all-powerful, he needs to have his own hidden agenda of finding that armor peice-by-piece, and not geting the chaos blade until near or at endgame. Calcore should probly not combine with other beings unless he's on the evil side and some dark magic fuses the feinds around him into an armour/weapons; if he's on the good sidehe should probly recieve some sort of power up from either a spell that transforms him or some divine armouring of varying streangth. Either way there needs to be alimit to how long he can stay powered up, AKA the feinds he's fued with get destroyed, there is a power gauge on the divine armouring that he can use up all at once or bit-by-bit.

Back to Clovis. First, I think he should be shorter than that. Second he should be a staple on one side of the war (I'm thinking the good guys) mainly because this way Clovis can betray them near the end when he finds the Chaos Blade.

As for potential party members, like Malico, should be biased to their side. Basically there should be different secondary characters for whichever path Calcor chooses, except for a few neutral charaters that can be swayed either way.

JUSTIN, give your opinion on some of this stuff, this one is after all your idea. and Rhynn, feel free to give your thoughts whenever you like.

yes it does need work, training with the knights is a sure way to make sure he knows how to fight, but lets pick just one: swordsmanship, marksmanship, or magic(it may be interesting to have a hero who doesn't do thing the conventional hero way with only a sword)

I'm going to shoot out and be an evil little critic now particularly cuz I'm not in that great a mood... >_> I hope you don't mind.

the ol'ancient armor/fuse thing is getting a tad old/boring too, too common with games such as real bout, erementar gerad(involves fusing with a special being which becomes all powerful weapon linked to self), soul calibur series, its nice that take for example, this all powerful thing has say a weakness or is completely useless (harhar) say aerith/aeris with her almighty holy materia, "YAY I HAVE THE POWER *dies*", right before she can use it and the like.

That and you're using the word "Chaos" ALOT. Chaotica, Chaos Blade, CHAOtic blader games, its all too common a word, it doesn't sound at all intimidating nor attractive that ppl would want to take a 2nd look at it, no don't even mention miasma, that is VERY old too, alot of games since the FF movie have involved the "omg the miasma is going to wipe out civillization as we know it!" whether it be a sickness or a virus or a fog, its always the miasma, it gets irritating seeing the same word over and over and used in multiple games. Even a simple completely random word like Nasgile is more interesting.

So far its got a "Fable" feel to it, maybe Oblivion Elder Scrolls IV(though I didn't play this one intending to though). In my honest opinion, at most have 5-6 secondary party members. People enjoy looking at a character's past history and what not, having a character join you for the sake of joining is lame, and well too many characters makes it difficult to focus. I had liked Suikoden in the past, as even though so many characters it had a strong storyline to back it up, and plus they went into quests with every character but recently it falls back abit when its too busy focusing on the main characters and neglects the side ones with the old, oh you're gonna save the kingdom, I shall join you too <3 <3. The most recent V managed to at least bring it to its former glory, but all in all 3 and 4 were a tad dissapointing. (Though 2 and 3 are personal favorites).
As a 'turn-based' Fable like thing it could be a potentially interesting concept, espcially since many games that come out nowadays are realtime based.

The tormented soul concept is interesting, though its going to need a strong background. the "Death is my next choice, but I will not die until my purpose is complete." is rather contradictive/makes him sound like a weak character. Prehaps remove the 'next' to get "Death is my choice/path. But I will not die till my purpose is complete." Thus showing a character who would rather die but prehaps in the end finds a reason to keep on living, prehaps in atonement or for love, who knows?

As for weapons, maybe create something new since you want to go in a new direction? Heck even nunchucks could be funny.

That being said, I think I'm heading to bed, gosh I think I'm PMSing again -_- Good nite.

we need to have a deadline for some of our stuff. starting this week we will be doing a full scale writing and stuff to get this story line done by 1 to 2 months fro, and and then start on the artistic stuff after that and then when we get there will go from there.

so I was thinking, since we seem to be agreeing that Calcor is a middle aged ex-night kinda guy and we need to give him an original wepon, let's give him a comically large hammer, or comically large ax with a really short handle, and he couldbe the village exocutioner, giving him good reason to go insane after killing so many people.

please critique anything I put in here, because some of you have experience with other games that I have never heard of and I may be using a concept from something I don't know about, and that's not cool.

Can I reccomend writing the story first, just the story, then fill in the characters from there FOR the story and not surrounding nothing but the character. Makes things easier and more sense. No don't even include Calcor, just write it as a series of events, what can, could and will happen and the like. Or any histories, plotholes, concepts, possible outlines if there are any. Characters are the last thing that should come in imo.

I was listening to Linkin Park's "Faint" just now I got the Idea we do the battle system like FF12 (running around and when attacking stuff the health/magic/ability bars appear) that if Calcor joins evil he can instantly fuse with any nearby fiends, a selection bar comes up and you select which fiends to fuse with him (up to a predetermined number) and the more of a particular type the larger/stonger the new appendage/ability/attribute. So as he's running through the battlefield he can spontaniously suck in some fiends to power up his left arm or something for a seriously powerful attack.

Female characters:


Maria:
Weapons-Bow amd arrows. as well as daggers
Abilities-Has supportive magic (heal, speed, etc.). fast and agile

Ella:
Weapons-Swords especially long swords and reaper.
Abilites-Most effiecient in supportive magic and fastest out of the three. She can cast healing magic faster the more often she use it and has a white eagle to help with long range foes.

Rin:
Weapons-Gaint scythe and chained sword
Abilites-to make up for her slow speed Rin's strength revel those of even the strongest man. Attack mainly with her scythe and black magic, she usually only use her chianed sword when have a little fun.

During a time of social unrest the current government has formed strict policy on many things there most recent being religion. Those who did not see eye to eye with the government were soon exile and were later come to know as "Fallen Angels". Truth may have that those who were exile were the only ones who were going to be free from this government control. As more people start acting strange and danger from fiends attacks increase the need for protection grows as well. So many able warriors become mercenaries. As the need for mercenaries grows the "Fallem Angels" make their move to change the current way of life. Main character can choose to join the "Fallen Angels" (good) or help the government (bad).

Demonia-Haleon(Demon Type)-Dark/Summoner Mage- uses dark arts to defeat foes and summones demonic foes from the abyss

Lithon-Elf-(Warrior/White Mage) specializes in sword and Axe Combat and uses the White Arts to heal his allies.

Zinho-Orcus-HeavyWeapon Specialist/Bounty Hunter) uses heavy weapons such as the Super Humungo Hammer and wears heavy Armor

Calcor-Hamun-(Heavy Weapon Specialist/Mercenary)-uses heavy weapons such as his perfered weapon the Executioner Axe 1 and uses light and heavy armor and can use some basic mage abilities.

Malico--Hamun/Elf-White/DarkMage/Warrior-specializes in using differents types of dark and light magic and can use swords, axes and staffs are his perfered weapon.

Clovis-Hamun-(All around specialist) Can use any classes weapons magic and abilities etc.

Psyno-Psy-(Lancer/Levitating/Mind Mage)Can use difernet types of magic and speacilizes in mimic and mind magic and uses lances ad his perfered weapon

Felnor-Drago Hamun-(Dragon rider /Warrior) Can use dragons and dragon magic to aid his allies in battle and also use lances,swords axes,spears and etc

and just to anounce it: I have written the opening text sequence and the stuff that wil be going on in the background and I have started on the beginning of the story itself. It will take quite a long time to get it typed up and spell checked so please bear with me.

I concur, until a full storyboard is written none should be discarded...maybe if there is a character or two that just doesnt fit into the storyboard as it is being written, then post your problem and cast a vote.
